Three firefighters rushed to hospital after explosion in Macroom

The incident happened on farmland early this morning.

THREE FIREFIGHTERS WERE injured in an explosion while responding to a fire in Macroom, Co Cork early this morning.

Gardaí rushed the firefighters, who were suffering from burns, to Cork University Hospital. Their injuries are thought to be serious but not life-threatening.

The incident happened on farmland, with gardaí arriving on the scene at about 12.40am.

The fire was later brought under control. Its cause is not yet known.

The scene has been preserved, pending an examination.
