All grown up: Ireland's kids head to their first day of school

It’s a big – and emotional – day.

SOME REMEMBER THEIR first day of school, and some remember well the bittersweet experience of dropping their own kids off for the first time.

There’s the moment of reckoning: will they cling to your leg and refuse to go, or will they run over to the other kids and not look back?

Some primary school children around Ireland had their first day at school today, and photographers from Rolling News were on hand to capture every second.

What do you remember from your first day of school?

Here are some of our reporters’ memories:

Cried my eyes out the entire day
Was worried whether I’d remember where to sit.
I called my teacher by her first name and she put me in the bin. True story!
Was almost certainly bawling.
I sat down at a desk, took out a copy and pencil and told mam “It’s ok, you can go now”. (And when I started secondary school, she drove me in on the first day and I said exactly the same thing to her)
