Five arrests in Cork in dissident republicanism probe

Men aged between their 20s and 50s are arrested after coordinated searches across Cork City this morning.

FIVE MEN have been arrested in Cork city this morning in connection with a Gardaí investigation into dissident republican activity.

The men – aged between their 20s and 50s – were arrested following coordinated searches at a number of city locations at around 7am this morning.

The raids were carried out by officers from the Cork division of the Special Detective Unit, backed up by officers from the Regional Support Unit.

All five of the men are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939, at Garda stations in Mayfield, Gurannabraher and Togher.

Three of the men are aged in their 40s, with the others aged in their 20s and 50s.

Inquiries into dissident republican activity in the area are ongoing, Gardaí say.
