The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #MCNULTY-GATE: Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said that no directive was given to the Fine Gael party on whether to vote for Seanad nominee John McNulty. The Tánaiste is keeping tight-lipped about her own vote.

2. #ON THE RIGHT TRACK: Both unions involved in a dispute with Irish Rail over pay cuts have voted to accept Labour Relations Commission proposals to end the impasse.

3. #RECOVERY: The Central Bank has upped its growth and job forecasts stretching until the end of next year, but has continued to pour cold water on calls to use Ireland’s economic windfalls to cut taxes.

4. #MIDDLE EAST: Australia’s cabinet has approved the deployment of special forces and military air strikes to tackle the Islamic State organisation in Iraq.

5. #RAIN RAIN GO AWAY: If you live in certain parts of the country, you might have noticed that it’s bucketing down outside. A weather warning is expected to remain in place until at least early tomorrow  – just what you want for a Friday evening, eh?
