EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #PROPERTY TAX Revenue has said that 9 out of 10 people have complied with the local property tax, with €175 million already collected. It said that €60 million more has been committed in phased payments. Revenue has begun writing to householders who have not complied with the tax.

2. #ABORTION Minister Alan Shatter has said that legislation to allow terminations in cases of fatal foetal abnormalities and rape will not be achieved in the lifetime of this government. He also said the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013 is resulting in a “British solution to an Irish problem”.

3. #RAPE There was a “disturbing” increase in calls to a rape helpline in 2012, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said today. The DRCC has released its annual report, which showed that it accompanied 260 victims to the sexual assault treatment unit in the Rotunda Hospital last year.

4. #WRECK The Tall Ship Astrid ran aground off the coast of Kinsale earlier today. The 30 people on board were rescued, and there were no major injuries. A number of lifeboats were tasked from the RNLI and Coast Guard. The ship remains partly submerged at the scene.

5. #JILL MEAGHER The husband of murdered Irish woman Jill Meagher has slammed the parole board for the state of Victoria for failing to give him answers as to why his wife’s killer was allowed free from prison early following a previous conviction. Denis Naphthine, the state premier of Victoria, has indicated that representatives of the board will meet with Tom Meagher to listen to his concerns.
