The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #REVENUE The home of Independent TD Michael Lowry has been raided by the Revenue Commissioners, RTÉ News is reporting. It said that the raid is believed to have occurred on Tuesday morning at the former Fine Gael minister’s home in Holycross, Co Tipperary.

2. #ESCAPE Gardaí are still hunting for a teenager who escaped over a wall at Balbriggan Garda Station in Dublin last week. The teen hopped over a wall at the station after telling officers he needed a cigarette break. A large-scale search effort was immediately launched, but the young man has not yet been located.

3. #MONEY A customer with Permanent TSB has said she has been advised to sell her house despite keeping up with an agreed payment plan and having an arrears balance of less than €200. In a letter, the bank told her that they understand the stress the recommendation may cause, but that they believe it is the best option for her. The woman has said she is “devastated” and will not sell her home.

4. #HEALTH Crumlin Hospital mistakenly told 18 families their children may have been infected with a bug found on hospital equipment. It blamed a mix-up with two colonoscopy machines for the mistake, and said seven other families have been contacted and sent information packs and stool-testing kits. The head of the HSE has described the situation as ‘a catastrophic failure’.

5. #SPAIN There are ‘no indications’ that any Irish citizens were on board the train that derailed in last night’s horrific rail tragedy in northwest Spain, Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Gilmore has said. However, it is expected that it will be some time before all those involved are identified. Officials say that at least 77 passengers were killed and 143 injured in the crash.
