1. #HOUSE FIRE A murder investigation is underway after a house fire claimed the lives of the wife and teenage children of a Dublin-based neurosurgeon. Dr Taufiq Sattar’s family were in their home in Leicester when a fire broke out this morning.

2. #CARRY ON The IMF’s director of communications wants Ireland to ‘continue our track record’ of budget cuts. Gerry Rice added that the Troika may agree to an ease on belt tightening.

3. #ARRESTS Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Lithuanian man Audrius Butkus. The 44-year-old’s body was found on a Meath beach earlier this week. Gardaí have arrested a man and two women in connection with the murder.

4. #REFORM REBELS The former members of Fine Gael have come together under the name of the Reform Alliance. TDs who lost the party whip in the abortion vote, as well as Roscommon-South Leitrim TD Dennis Naughten, are due to hold a ‘think-in’ this weekend.

5. #INDIA Four men charged with the gang rape and murder of an Indian student last December have been sentenced to death. All of the men are in their teens or 20s and were earlier found guilty of what the judge called the “cold-blooded” murder of the 23-year-old woman.
