Five more arrests in south-east drugs probe

Five people – three men and two women – are arrested after further searches in Carlow and Kildare.

GARDAÍ IN COUNTIES Carlow and Kildare have this morning arrested a further five people as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking and organised crime in the Carlow and south-eastern region.

The five people – two men and three women – were arrested at various locations in the counties this morning, after further searches were carried out.

The five are all being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, at Garda stations in the south-east of the country.

Gardaí are continuing to question five of the 16 people who have been arrested in connection with the probe over the last two days.

14 people were arrested on Monday, with a further two arrested yesterday.

Gardaí said that a large consignment of contraband cigarettes was discovered during one of the searches on Monday.
