Plane forced into emergency landing at Belfast Airport due to faulty nose gear

The flight, which was heading to Inverness, officially declared an emergency at 12.36pm.

A FLYBE FLIGHT from Belfast has made an emergency landing after experiencing technical issues with its nose gear after take-off.

Flight BE331 had to circulate for two hours after taking off at 11.20am after it reported a “possible nose gear issue”, according to flight tracking website airlive.net.

The flight, which was heading to Inverness, officially declared an emergency at 12.36pm.

The website said the plane was burning fuel in “holding pattern to reduce weight as must as possible before an emergency landing”.

The plane made a successful landing at Belfast International Airport at 1.43pm. It stopped in the middle of the runway with its nose gear up after landing.

The runway was closed and fire services attended the scene. Passengers were evacuated on the runway.

“Flybe can confirm that there has been an incident involving one of our Bambardier Q-400 aircraft, flight no BE331 which landed with no nose gear in place,” a statement from Flybye said.

“The aircraft departed from Belfast City at 1107 local time bound for Inverness. The incident occurred at Belfast International Airport at approximately 1330 local time.

“There are 52 passengers on board and four crew members. Our primary concern is for the welfare of the passengers and crew.”
