James Patterson is top-earning author

But Hunger Games writer Suzanne Collins makes appearance among established names.

THRILLER WRITER JAMES Patterson is the world’s highest earning author, according to Forbes Magazine.

The 65-year-old author of ‘Along came a spider’ and the series of detective and psychologist Alex Cross novels earned an estimated $94 million last year. He published 14 new titles last year.

Stephen King ranks in second place, with nine of the top 15 slots on the list belonging to male authors.

However two women are playing catch up on Patterson and other established names such as legal thriller writer John Grisham, who came in 4th with earnings of $26 million. Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins came in 9th with total earnings of $20m, while ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ author EL James is  expected to appear near the top of the list next year, said Forbes.

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling is in 11th place on the list.
