Joyrider smashes through front window of cafe in Cork

Nichola Crowley was telling Red FM’s Neil Prendeville about the ordeal.

A CAFÉ OWNER in Cork received a rather rude awakening this morning when a call came through to tell her that a joy rider had smashed through the front of her business.

Calling in to Red FM’s The Neil Prendeville Show, Nichola Crowley explained that she became aware of the crash after receiving a call from her phone watch company.

“We obviously responded and when we came out it wasn’t a burglar, it was a 02 [Volkswagen] Boro in the window,” she said.

Thankfully, Crowley explained, the car didn’t managed to make its way into the premises.

“We’re very lucky because I suppose there’s about two feet of concrete underneath the glass,” she said.

Literally the front of the car just bounced off the window pane here. The double-glazed glass just shattered obviously.

On the damage around the shop, Crowley told host Neil Prendeville that before hitting the front of her café the Volkswagen had destroyed a set of traffic lights and destroyed a number of bollards.

It isn’t the first bit of bad luck for the young business.

Back when it opened in January the premises was hit by a burglary.

Gardaí said this evening that currently nobody was being held in relation to the incident and that the investigation was ongoing.
