Four in court after 'travelling burglary gang' arrests

Nine people in total were arrested as part of an operating targeting a series of burglaries around Carlow and Kilkenny.

FOUR PEOPLE ARE to appear in court today as part of a Garda operation targeting a travelling gang  in Carlow and Kilkenny.

Nine people were arrested on Thursday morning as part of Operation Laidir, which was set up in a bid to stop the large number of burglaries in the south-east of the country. A total of fourteen homes were searched and four vehicles were seized as part of the operation.

A man and a woman in their 50s will appear before a Dublin court this morning while two young people will appear before the Smithfield Juvenile Court.

All remaining five people arrested have been released.

Gardaí said investigations are continuing.
