Four injured in helicopter crash

Two PSNI officers among the group which escaped major injury in crash near scene of weekend tragedy.

FOUR PEOPLE WERE INJURED in yesterday’s helicopter crash at Shanlieve, Co Down.

The accident occurred very close to the scene of last weekend’s fatal helicopter crash in which three men were killed.

Yesterday, two PSNI officers, a mapper and a pilot were investigating Saturday’s crash when their own helicopter overturned as it was landing, according to UTV.

Asst Chief Constable Alistair Finlay said that having people and equipment already on the scene “made all the difference” in rescuing the four men, although poor weather conditions delayed taking the men by airlift to hospital.

Finlay said: “There aren’t many helicopter crashes that people walk out of and this has been one and we’re very, very grateful”.

Their injuries are understood to be minor.
