Four killed in Bank Holiday motor accidents

Two 20-year-olds die in Dublin and Wexford, while two men in their sixties died yesterday in Donegal and Carlow.

FOUR PEOPLE have lost their lives so far this Bank Holiday weekend on the nation’s roads.

The latest death came this morning shortly after 7am, when a 20-year-old male driver struck a wall just off the Ballygall Road, east of Glasnevin on the north side of Dublin.

A 21-year-old passenger also in the car was seriously injured, and the road remains closed.

His death came just a few hours after a 20-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Wexford town in the early hours of the morning. The car involved, RTÉ reports, was found burnt-out nearby a short time later.

Gardaí had been alerted to the car, which had been seen speeding earlier in the night, and there had been a squad car about 500m from the site when it occurred, but the speeding car was not being pursued at the time.

Yesterday a man in his sixties was killed on the Donegal town by-pass in a two-car collision, while another man of the same age died in a two-car crash on the N9 outside Leighlinbridge in Co Carlow yesterday morning.
