'I love the brightness and the natural light': Yvonne shares her family's colourful dining area

‘The double doors really connect this space to the outdoors.’

EACH WEEK, WE ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Yvonne Harte lives in Co Cork with her husband and two kids.

“Our home is a new build which we moved into three years ago,” says Yvonne. “I love colour and I think plants always bring a space to life.”

This week, Yvonne (@four_at_14) chatted us through her favourite spot: her dining area.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I love the brightness and the natural light in this space. It’s where we all hang out as a family and where everyone congregates when we have family gatherings. In the summer, the double doors really connect this space to the outdoors and, because it’s south-facing, it’s always cosy and warm, even in winter.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

My favourite object and my most treasured piece in here is the yellow Soul Disco print which takes pride of place in the gallery wall. I’ve had this print in a tube for about 15 years and it has moved house with me several times, but I knew it would eventually find its forever home. It is a reminder, firstly, of our love of music and also of great friends who have given us amazing memories of fun times.

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

My inspiration for this space was making sure it reflected us as a family, and creating a comfortable, fun living space for our kids.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

Loads! I cleared about 10 jigsaws, crayons and colouring books off the table, dusted the sideboard and I actually cleaned the floor too. White tiles are very high maintenance when you have kids!
