THE FROSTY WEATHER isn’t going anywhere as sleet and snow are forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Today will be the last of the mild weather, with top temperatures of between eight to 11 degrees.
Tonight is set to be windy, with strong and gusty south to southwest winds. Heavy rain will spread in from the Atlantic through the night, according to Met Éireann.
Tomorrow will continue to be a windy and blustery day with heavy and persistent rain in many areas of the country, especially in the west coastal counties. Despite the wet weather, temperatures will rise to between 12 and 14 degrees.
Conditions will turn bitterly cold on Thursday with fresh, gusty north and northwesterly breezes. There will be heavy rain showers with an increased risk of sleet and snow showers towards the evening.
Daytime temperatures will range between three to eight degrees.
The rain will ease off for a time on Thursday night, but bouts of snow in the north and northwest forecast. Temperatures will drop to as low as -2 degrees.
Met Éireann is warning that frost and icy patches on untreated surfaces are to be expected.
Friday will be another cold day with scattered showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow.
The showers will gradually die out on Friday night as blustery northwesterly winds move in.
Widespread frost and icy patches are expected to return as temperatures fall between -2 and three degrees.
