Funeral arrangements for former minister Brian Lenihan announced

Tributes for the late minister Brian Lenihan, who passed away at his home yesterday, continue to pour in.

A BOOK OF condolence for late Brian Lenihan is being opened this afternoon at his Castleknock constituency office in Co Dublin.

The former Fianna Fáil minister passed away yesterday, aged 52, at his home in west Dublin after an 18-month battle against pancreatic cancer.

His remains will lie in repose from 10am on Monday at Jennings Funeral Home in Blanchardstown before removal that evening to St Mochta’s Church in Porterstown, arriving at 6pm.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday morning at 11am and he will be laid to rest afterwards in a private burial in St David’s graveyard, Kilsallaghan.

Tributes continue to pour in for the former minister this morning. Yesterday, former Taoisigh and Lenihan’s former cabinet colleagues Brian Cowen and Bertie Ahern described him as a man of “ability and intelligence who was totally committed to public service” and “a politician of outstanding capabilities and compassion”.

Lenihan’s aunt and former minister Mary O’Rourke led the tributes, saying yesterday morning that although her nephew had recently been in hospital, “in the end he went home – where else would we all like to pass away but home”.
