GALWAY BAY BREWERY is officially the maker of the best beer in Ireland.

Beoir, a group that raises awareness of the Irish craft beer industry, has named the brewery’s excellently-named Of Foam and Fury Beer of the Year 2016.

A record 150 different Irish craft beers were nominated for the award, which was voted for by members of the group.

In second place was Rustbucket, a rye ale by Kinnegar Brewing in Rathmullan, Co Donegal:

And in third place we have Beann Gulban, a sour heather ale by The White Hag Brewery in Ballymote, Co Sligo.

Everyone else been crazily busy? Though so! This was one of my #12beersofxmas from last week and one of the ones I enjoyed the most. The Beann Gulban from White Hag is a Gruit/Ancient Herb Ale which uses heather instead of hops. It's a sour and interesting ale. It comes in at 7.5%, too. The most prominent flavour I got was soured apple, but aside from that, I really enjoyed it. A lot of lip smacking and nodding. Good times! #thesippingforecast #whitehagbrewery #beanngulban #irishcraftbeer #sourale Instagram / the_sipping_forecast Instagram / the_sipping_forecast / the_sipping_forecast

Now you know what to be sipping in 2016. Pints all round!
