Garda Commissioner to step down from post by 2011

GARDA COMMISSIONER FACHTNA MURPHY has announced he will retire from his role at the end of this year. RTÉ reports that Murphy has served as the garda chief for three years and in the gardaí for 43 years before that. Murphy was the first head of the Criminal Assets Bureau when it was set up in 1996.
