Young woman killed and two others in serious condition after three vehicle crash in Westmeath

The road is currently closed to facilitate a garda forensic investigation and diversions are in place.

A YOUNG WOMAN in her 20s has died in a road crash in Westmeath and two other women are in a serious condition.

The three vehicle crash happened at Hiskinstown, Delvin at around 3.30pm this afternoon. Two cars and a truck were involved in the collision.

A female driver of one of the cars involved was pronounced dead at the scene, her female passenger, who is also in her 20s, has been taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where her injuries are described as serious.

The female driver of the second car has been airlifted to Tallaght Hospital in a serious condition.

The male truck driver was uninjured.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a garda forensic investigation and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them at Mullingar Garda Station on 044 9384000, the garda confidential line on 1800 666111 or any garda station.
