Garda dies in Wicklow road crash

The fatal single-vehicle collision occurred at about 8am at Newtownmountkennedy.

A MEMBER OF An Garda Siochána has died in a single-vehicle collision in county Wicklow this morning, according to RTÉ News.

The crash occurred near Newtownmountkennedy as he was coming off duty. The 49-year-old was brought to Loughlinstown Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí have said the serious collision occurred at about 8am at Kiladreenan, Newtownmountkennedy on the northbound section of the N11, between exit 12 and exit 13.

The road was closed for forensic examinations but has now reopened.

An appeal for witnesses has been made and anyone with information is asked to contact Bray Garda Station on 01 666  5300 or the Confidential Line on  1800 666 111.

The Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission is also investigating the incident, reports RTÉ.
