One man arrested in massive Garda operation into prostitution

33 buildings were searched in the operation.

ONE MAN HAS been arrested after gardaí carried out a massive operation targeting organised prostitution around the country.

A total of 33 apartments, flats and houses were searched in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and nine other counties by more than 60 gardaí.

The two-day operation followed a six month-long investigation into the activities of crime gangs involved in prostitution and brothels.

An Garda Síochána said the purpose of the search operation was to gather evidence in order to advance the investigation. Evidence of suspected prostitution activity was found at some of the locations.

Gardaí also seized documents, mobile phones, computers and money.

Women who were at some of the locations were interviewed by investigating officers and offered support and advice.

The man in his 30s was arrested during the search of an apartment in Swords on suspicion of money laundering.

He was released without charge this evening and a file is due to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
