Six arrested in Cork in connection with mortgage loan fraud

A large amount of documentation along with computers, storage devices and phones were seized during the operation.

SIX PEOPLE HAVE been arrested in Cork following allegations of fraudulent mortgage loans secured on a number of properties in the Munster area.

Detectives from the fraud investigation unit based in Anglesea St. Garda Station assisted by local gardaí across Co. Cork carried out the searches and arrests this morning.

Four men and two women – ranging in ages from their twenties to their forties – were arrested. They are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at a number of Garda Stations in Co. Cork.

A large amount of documentation along with computers, storage devices and phones were seized during the operation.

Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €5,000 were also recovered at one of the locations.

Enquiries are ongoing.

    Its next to impossible to get a genuine mortgage so how do you get a fraudulent mortgage, maybe they gave the mortgage advisor some of their weed…….clever

    At bloody last,all of those bankers that screwed the country have been got…….what it’s not them….so we got some people that decked the country for billions so…..no?…Wtf is going on here, which bank is out of pocket here? I’m lost…I give up

    When I applied for my mortgage I said I didn’t smoke and didnt drink . Like everybody else in Ireland !

    Apparently the bank in question approve a mortgage (€1 million is the rumour) application by one person but handed over the dosh to a different person. They never even realised their mistake until the payments stopped. Don’t know how this could have been allowed to happen, I thought ID checks were pretty standard in this line of business.
