Garda Ombudsman investigates after garda shooting in Kerry

The garda is in critical condition after the shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning. The circumstances are not believed to be suspicious.

THE GARDA OMBUDSMAN is investigating an incident in which a garda in his 30s was injured in a shooting in Kerry.

The garda remains in a critical condition in hospital in Tralee following the incident which took place at around 4am on Sunday morning.

The Garda Commissioner referred the incident to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission as part of a standard procedure when a garda is shot.

A spokesperson for the Ombudsman’s office said it is not believed that there were any suspicious circumstances related to the incident.
