Garda Ombudsman appeals for witnesses to Dublin road accident

A man has been hospitalised after he was hit by a car being driven by an off-duty garda on Sunday evening.

THE GARDA OMBUDSMAN has issued an appeal for witnesses to a road accident in Dublin in which a man was hit by a car being driven by an off-duty Garda on Sunday evening.

The man was struck by a dark coloured Volkswagen Golf at around 8pm on Sunday on the Drimnagh Road near the junction with Errigal Road in Dublin 12.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected broken leg.

The incident was referred to the Garda Ombudsman by the Garda Commissioner in accordance with section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act.

It is understood that the person driving the car was an off-duty garda.

The Ombudsman is appealing to witnesses to contact them at 1890 600 800 in an attempt to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
