Garda retrial ordered for next June

A retrial has been set for four gardaí who have been accused of beating a young man with batons after illegally entering his home.

FOUR GARDAÍ accused of assaulting a 21-year-old man in his own home have been sent forward for retrial in June 2011.

RTÉ reports that the retrial will take place at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in June next year.

Owen Gaffney alleges that four gardaí entered his home, without a warrant, and beat him with batons after locking his mother in the bathroom on 17 February, 2008.

Alan Conlon, Claire Delaney, Eoin Murtagh and Sean O’Leary have denied entering the flat at Basin Street Upper and assaulting Gaffney.

A previous trial collapsed in October due to legal difficulties.
