Gardaí seize €300,000 worth of drugs and cannabis plants in Stepaside, south Dublin

A man was arrested following the seizure.

A MAN HAS been arrested after gardaí seized drugs and cannabis plants worth an estimated €300,000 in south Dublin.

Gardaí attached to Stepaside Station and the DMR East Drugs Unit carried out a search of a home in Stepaside, south Dublin, yesterday as part of Operation Tara.

During the search, gardaí uncovered a cannabis cultivation operation and seized 37 mature cannabis plants, a “substantial quantity” of cannabis herb and quantities of suspected MDMA and amphetamine.

Gardaí said the estimated street value of the drugs seized is in excess of €300,000, pending analysis.

A man in his 40s was arrested following the investigation and is being held at a garda station in the Dublin region under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. He can be held for up to seven days.

Legalise, regulate, and tax, please. I’d like to be treated like an adult and allowed to purchase good quality green occasionally. Something mellow. These plants will be destroyed. The main suppliers have already trousered the cash. I have no interest in pills – though mdma has been shown to have some very positive effects on ptsd, anxiety, and depression.

@honey badger: Now who do you think will do that, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil baulked at bring in medicinal cannabis. The idea of hitting their head against a brick wall appeals to them.

@Brian D’Arcy: Indeed. The shinners ard fheis didn’t pass a motion that was calling for basic decriminalisation of cannabis either. The Greens have called for decriminalisation of personal use cannabis (5 grams).
I’m not sure what other parties are saying, but there’ll be several brick walls on offer I’d imagine…

@honey badger: Absolutely, it would solve a lot of Irelands financial issues and it would free up a lot of Garda resources that are wasted on chasing people who are actually providing a product that helps millions across the world daily with chronic pain!!!!

When is the Irish government gonta wake up and realise that Drugs won the war along time ago. The demand is never going away so neither is the supply. All the seizures and the price or availability of drugs hasn’t changed. What do we ha e to wait for the UK to do it first ?

Time to legalise, regulate and tax, It is no more harmful than tobacco and alcohol. The thing is, people are going to use it anyway, so it’s better to ensure that it’s free of impurities and the state gets revenue!
