Two Gardaí hospitalised trying to stop Co Donegal theft

The officers were injured when their car was rammed after interrupting an attempted burglary in Bridgend.

TWO GARDAÍ were hospitalised after being injured when their car was rammed while trying to stop a robbery early this morning in Co Donegal.

The incident happened at the yard of an Eircom facility at Bridgend in the north-east of the county at about 8:30am.

The officers were responding to reports of suspicious activity in the facility yard when they found a number of men trying to remove copper wire from the premises.

The men tried to flee the scene and rammed a squad car in the process, injuring the two officers.

The Gardaí were treated for their injuries in Letterkenny General Hospital but have since been discharged.

Three juvenile males were arrested in connection with the incident; two are being detained in Buncrana, while the third is also receiving hospital treatment in Letterkenny.

The two currently in detention will appear before Letterkenny District Court tomorrow morning.

In a separate overnight incident, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested at the grounds of a house at Crawford Square in Moville.

Gardaí said a rear window in the house, which was unoccupied at the time, had been smashed.

The two are also due to appear before Letterkenny District Cour tomorrow morning.
