Gardaí investigate fatal Limerick crash

Stolen car believed to have been involved in crash which killed two men and left another seriously injured.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a fatal Limerick car crash which killed two men and left a third seriously injured.

The car struck a tree on the N21 at Croagh, Co Limerick, on Tuesday night.

Two of the occupants, aged in their 20s, died at the scene and a third man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

The Irish Independent reports that the men were attempting to evade gardaí at the time of the crash as the vehicle was stolen, and says gardaí recovered an imitation firearm from the crashed car. The Garda Ombudsman has been notified by gardaí regarding the incident.

In a statement, gardaí said:

In light of the fact that shortly before the collision a Garda had observed the car and had turned his vehicle to follow it, the Garda Siochana Ombudsman’s office has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them on 061 601630.
