Gardaí issue witness appeal over serious Dublin assault

A man in his 20s was found with serious injuries on the banks of the Royal Canal in Dublin 7 yesterday afternoon.

GARDAÍ HAVE ISSUED an appeal for witnesses to a serious assault that took place in north inner city Dublin yesterday.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was found on wasteland on the bank of the Royal Canal in the Dublin 7 area, near Shandon Park in Phibsborough, yesterday afternoon.

He had sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition at the Mater Hospital. The area in which he was found remains sealed off for a technical examination.

Gardaí have asked any witnesses to the assault, or who may have seen any unusual or suspicious behaviour in the area between 9am and 3:30pm, to contact Mountjoy Garda Station at (01) 666 8600.
