Poll: Should gardaí be allowed to detain a drunk person until they sober up?

Under current legislation, people arrested for public order offences cannot be held until they sober up.

A motion to be discussed later today at the Garda Representative Conference seeks to address this.

While there are provisions to hold someone if they have been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, this is not case for public order offences.

We want to know what you think: Should gardaí be allowed to detain a drunk person until they sober up?
