Fellas,no matter how many times your child goes missing you’ll have the same fears. Might be ‘taking the piss’ to us,but it might not always be a false alarm and a missing child should never be taken for granted. I hope he is found safe and well, but if he is just ‘taking the piss’,that humility catches up with him!!

The Garda put all missing persons on their system immediately. The 24 hour rule is gone. Their risk is evaluated on age, previous history etc. Under 18′s are automatically high risk.

Thank god the 24 hr rule is gone. Every minute counts. Better to have 1000 false alarms in exchange for returning a genuinely missing/abducted child safely. Better safe than sorry. Please god he is found

Probably get labeled as callous for saying this but the Gardai policy concerning seeking public assistance for missing kids seems a bit broad. There is a big difference between a kid who goes missing on his way to school and and a kid who has a track record of running away or staying out with his friends. Most of the kids on here that go missing seem to have a track record of going missing and turning up a few days later. The only thing the Gardai are doing is making people desensitized to missing kids because they always seen to show up a few days later. When a kid really goes missing in weird circumstance are they going to come out with a different type of plea for public assistance?

This is all well known to the Gardai, and is accounted for in their policies.

I think it’s safe to say that until he is found the Gardaí don’t know if he has run away again or some pervert has taken him. Hopefully he has run away and when found social services step in and find out why he is running away

This morning?? Isn’t there usually a sort of.. time period before someone can be deemed a ‘missing person’? Like 24-48 hours? Maybe I watched too much of the bill…

@Arranthos.. It’s the first few hours that are critical in trying to locate a Child.. After that the trail starts to run cold..
That’s why they have a Sarah’s law in England named after eight year old Sarah Payne who was found murdered by a Michael Whitmore back in July 17th 2000..
Her Mother also called Sarah fought tirelessly for Years to have this law implemented and she nearly died fighting for this for years..
If an Adult goes missing it’s 24 Hours..

I think that in the case of genuine missing kids it is great to alert the public in every possible way. I also think that in the case of a child “suspected” missing/run away it is the right thing to alert the public because it makes it more difficult for that kid to stay hidden.
