Gardaí seek witnesses to robbery at Castleblayney jewellery shop

Diamonds and gold jewellery were stolen after a Co Monaghan jeweller was pepper-sprayed during a raid yesterday morning.

GARDAÍ IN County Monaghan have issued an appeal for information on a robbery at a jewellery shop in Castleblayney yesterday, in which a large quantity of gold and diamond jewellery was stolen.

The shop on the town’s Main Street was raided at 11:53am yesterday morning when three males entered and became involved in a physical struggle with the owner.

One of the culprits pepper-sprayed the owner during the attack.

The men then smashed display cases at the shop with a hammer, seizing diamonds and gold jewellery, before escaping in a black Citroen Saxo bearing the registration number 00 D 67315 in the direction of the Keady Road.

The scene was preserved for a full technical examination which has since been concluded.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact Gardaí in Castleblayney at (042) 9740668 or the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111.
