GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING TERRORIST financing operations for an Islamic terror group have carried out searches at three address across the south and east of the country.

Detectives from the Special Detective Unit and the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) carried out raids this morning.

No arrests have been made but €100,000 in various currencies has been seized along with mobile phones and other electronic devices.

Gardaí believe it is the proceeds of fundraising for what they are calling an Islamic Terrorist Organisation.

A garda spokesperson said that the investigation is focused on fundraising and not about potential for terrorist attacks.

“The investigation is part of and being supported by International Law Enforcement and Europol.

“In excess of €100,000 cash in various currencies has been seized, along with electronic devices and documentation.

“The GNIB is investigating the residency status of those involved, who are non-Irish nationals. This is an evidence gathering phase of the investigation. No arrests were made in today’s operation,” a statement said.
