Gardaí to search family's former home as part of investigation into Kyran Durnin’s disappearance

Kyran was reported missing from his home on 30 August but gardaí believe the child vanished some months before that.

GARDAÍ WILL TODAY search the former family home of Kyran Durnin as part of the investigation into the disappearance of the eight-year-old.

Kyran was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth on 30 August but is presumed dead.

Yesterday, acting under a District Court Order, gardaí took possession of a private house in Dundalk.

That house will be searched today and will be subject to technical and forensic examinations, as will the garden and adjoining ground to the house.

A garda spokesperson said the purpose of these searches are to discover any evidence which might provide information as to Kyran’s current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran.

The house was Kyran’s family home for a number of years, up until May 2024.

Gardaí stressed that the current tenants of the house are not in any way connected to the investigation.

Speaking today, Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern said: “I want to thank members of the public who have contacted the garda investigation team to date. Our sole focus and primary concern, and that of the investigation team is Kyran.

“We want to discover where Kyran is. We want to discover what has happened to Kyran. I continue to appeal to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact investigating gardai.

“Do not rule out any information that you may have. Please do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have.”

Anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Kyran was a student at the local primary school in Dundalk up until the end of the 2021/22 school year.

A missing persons appeal was launched on 4 September, and at the time it was stated that Kyran was last seen on Wednesday 28 August.

Despite extensive enquiries, gardaí have been unable to locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or any evidence that he is alive.

Investigating gardaí believe that Kyran is dead but do not believe his death occurred when his disappearance was reported to gardaí in August. Gardaí believe the young boy may have died up to two years ago.
