A GAS EXPLOSION outside a petrol station in Dublin led to one person being injured in Knocklyon.

Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed that the incident occurred outside the Applegreen on Knocklyon Road earlier today.

Traffic is closed in both directions due to a fire that broke out at the scene.

The gas main is believed to have been fractured while work was being carried out on the main road outside the Applegreen.

Two workmen received minor injuries in the incident – one to their hands and face – and they were brought to Tallaght Hospital.

Three fire engines attended the scene.

Three houses nearby were evacuated, with 10 people in total having to leave their homes.

Fire crews managed to prevent the fire from spreading to these buildings.

Gas Networks Ireland said that at approximately 4.30pm today, it was requested to attend an incident in Knocklyon, Dublin 16 in response to a fire.

Emergency services and Gas Networks Ireland crews are on site.
