A councillor and neighbour of the family in the village of Woodpark said it was a “dreadfully sad time”.

LOCALS IN THE community of Woodpark in Co Galway are coming to terms this evening with the death of local man Ger Scully, who died following a crash involving a road train in Western Australia at the weekend.

According to reports in Australia, the 30-year-old was driving a Toyota Hilux that was in collision with the vehicle in an area near the town of South Hedland in the north-west of the region on Sunday.

Perth Now reports that he died at the scene of the crash.

Councillor Mary Hoade, a neighbour of the family in the village of Woodpark, said the community was in “shock and sadness” at the news.

She said she wanted to extend her sympathies to Ger’s parents Paddy and Bridie, and the rest of his family “at this dreadfully sad time”.

Galway Bay FM reports that Ger had emigrated to Australia around five years ago and had been working in the mines.

He was due to travel home to Ireland for Christmas.

A road train is a method of trucking used in remote areas of Australia and other countries. The vehicles consist of trucks pulling multiple trailers along roadways.
