'I've mixed antiques and new pieces': Designer Geri shares her rustic kitchen in Limerick

Geri O’Toole Glynn works on clients’ interiors – but relished the challenge of decorating her own home.

EACH WEEK, WE ask an Irish person with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Geri O’Toole Glynn and her husband Cathal moved into their self-build cottage in the Limerick countryside in 2016.

“As an interior designer, when I see a space it flows from my mind,” she says.

“With clients I obviously put my ideas on paper, but for my own home I just pulled things together from my own head.”

This week, Geri (@geri_designs) talked us through her favourite space in her home: her open-plan kitchen and dining room.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I love the double height space as you don’t expect it in our cottage. I love the antique picture I have over the reclaimed oak beam we added to the cottage and the antique antlers also. I love cooking and spending time with the family here in the evenings when we are home from work.

What was your inspiration when you were putting the space together?

I love a home to feel lived in and have soul and that’s what I achieved here by mixing antiques and new pieces, and adding features like beams.

Talk us through some of the objects in the photo.

The lights, which are black-bronze, hanging over the table are from Browsers Interiors, and the dining set and rattan bar stools are too. The kitchen is by Neptune from Browsers Interiors also.

How well does this photo reflect the rest of your home?

I think it gives a good sense of style because in the rest of our home I have a mix of modern and antique furniture too.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

A lot! And I added some fresh flowers for the picture.

Do you have a spot in your home that you’re particularly proud of? Do you enjoy styling the different rooms in your house? Are you always adding and changing little things to make your space stand out? If so, we want to hear from you! Email amy@thejournal.ie with a few lines about yourself and your home for a chance to feature in My Home in One Photo.
