Each week, we step inside a reader’s home, and indulge in some copycat behaviour, creating a shopping list inspired by their interior style.
This week, Joanne McCauley’s (@ouremporium) cosy and colourful seating area was our inspiration.
“When we first moved into our home, this bedroom was floor to ceiling Manchester United décor,” says Joanne. “Even the lightshades and curtains were dedicated to football.”
Joanne knew things needed to change, and she had a vision in mind. “I really wanted a room where I could get ready in the mornings for work, get ready to meet my mates and where I could have a wee cocktail before heading out. The room also needed to serve as a spare room where guests could stay when they visited.”
I needed a space that was both functional and fabulous.
Wayfair, Ikea and TK Maxx were Joanne’s main ports of call when decorating this space. Below are six high street items that’ll help you get the look in your own home…
1. Tassel cushion cover, €14.99, H&M
Joanne added a white textured cushion like this one as a contrast to her bright red couch. It would work equally well with more neutral toned furniture.
2. Green velvet cushion, €14.99, H&M
Another luxe cushion, perfect for adding drama to a living or sleeping space. Even one stand-out piece like this will create huge impact when styled alongside a selection of more pared-back soft furnishings.
3. Cat print, €21, Fy
Make like Joanne and add some feline fun to your walls with this creative cat print.
4. Monstera plant, €15, Ikea
The monstera plant may be pretty (and oh-so Instagrammable) but it’s also a natural air purifier, so it’s a great one for small spaces.
5. Wire shelf, €53, Next
Joanne uses her wire shelf to display some choice accessories, but this would work equally well for photos or small houseplants.
