IT WAS ONCE on the market for $125 million (€95 million) but the house where  Gianni Versace lived until his death is now being put under the hammer at a bankruptcy auction.

The Florida mansion hasn’t been owned by the Versace family for more than thirteen years following the shooting dead of fashion designer Gianni at the gates of the house, but auctioneers are using  the name of the former resident to generate interest in the property.  The auction is due to be held in September with the minimum bid set at $25 million – which, given that it’s one fifth what the property previously sold for, could be seen as something as a bargain for the uber-rich.

The house had been converted into a private club and then a boutique hotel since the Versace family sold it in 2000, but a court appointed the auctioneers to sell the property earlier this year due to debts.

The house on Ocean Drive in Miami comes complete with a swimming pool inlaid with 24-carat gold tiles,  giant mosaics and frescos in several rooms and golden Medusa heads throughout.
