The GIF that shows Ireland's heatwave coming to an end

Looks like rain, Ted.

IRELAND’S FREAKISHLY Mediterranean spell of hot weather is coming to a pretty dramatic end today.

Throughout the day we’ve been taking images from Met Éireann’s Rainfall Radar – which updates every 15 minutes to show the current rainfall over Ireland.

This evening we’ve stitched all the images into an animated GIF to show just how the weather has shifted over the course of the day – as rainclouds emerge from the west and south-west, and begin to slowly blanket the country.

The first image is from 9:15am; the last at 8:30pm this evening.

We reckon you’ll figure out pretty quickly where the loop begins and ends.
