Girl, 2, dies after being hit by caravan in tragic accident

The tragic death happened in north Mayo last Saturday.

A TWO-AND-A-HALF-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a caravan in a tragic accident in Mayo at the weekend.

The incident happened at Ballycastle at around 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon when a caravan that was being towed by a family member hit the infant.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was removed to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where a post mortem was carried out on Sunday.

The girl’s family are originally from Belfast and had been holidaying in the north Mayo region.

Gardaí said they are treating the incident as a tragic accident.
