Teacher killed in Glasgow bin lorry crash laid to rest

800 people attended the mass for Stephenie Tait.

AROUND 800 PEOPLE have attended the funeral of a 29-year-old teacher killed in the Glasgow bin lorry crash before Christmas.

Stephenie Tait was one of six people killed after a truck crashed in the city on 22 December.

Six people in total died when an out-of-control bin lorry travelled through part of Glasgow’s city centre, before crashing into a hotel.

About 10 people, including the lorry driver – who was seen slumped over the wheel before the incident – received treatment in hospital. Police said it was not a criminal or deliberate attack.

Canon Peter McBride told the congregation that nobody could have foreseen the “horrendous accident” that occurred in the run-up to Christmas.

“All of us are still in a state of shock at the loss of Stephenie and that sense of loss will continue for those closest to her for the rest of their lives.

“Her dedication and service as a teacher and her ability to engage and inspire all of us with an intimacy we normally only associate with family or special friends, is a blessing we shall cherish for the rest of our lives.”
