Here's everything you need to know about tonight's Golden Globes, and how to watch in Ireland

The Irish nominations, the favourites, the red carpet – it’s all here.

THE GOLDEN GLOBE Awards, which celebrate the best in film and television, kicks off awards season proper tonight.

The Globes is usually one of the more fun ceremonies, so we can expect a bit of craic from the assembled A-listers. Planning on tuning in? Here’s everything you need to know.

Any Irish nominations this year?

Quite a few, actually! Our big hope is Ruth Negga, who is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in the civil rights film Loving.

Elsewhere, John Carney’s Sing Street is nominated for Best Comedy/Musical, Colin Farrell is up for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for The Lobster, and Monaghan actress Caitriona Balfe got a nod for the TV show Outlander.

Who are the favourites to win?

Over on the drama side of things, it’s a toss up between Manchester By The Sea and the coming-of-age tale Moonlight, with Manchester’s Casey Affleck expected to get the Best Actor gong.

La La Land is predicted to dominate the comedy categories, including acting wins for its stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling – no huge surprises there.

Meanwhile in telly, the favourites are The Crown, The People vs OJ Simpson, and Donald Glover’s comedy Atlanta. (You can check the full list of nominees here.)

What can we expect from the ceremony?

Jimmy Fallon will host the proceedings, taking over from Ricky Gervais (but never replacing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as the hosts of our dreams).

Celebrities tasked with presenting awards include Goldie Hawn, Brie Larson, Sylvester Stallone, Nicole Kidman and Chris Hemsworth.

The Globes are a notoriously boozy event, so we will hopefully see celebs delightfully piddled. Fingers crossed.

How do we watch it over over here?

As usual, it’ll be a late one for Irish people looking to watch it live – the red carpet will be covered on E! from 11pm onwards.

The ceremony itself is due to kick off at around 1am our time on NBC, finally wrapping up at 4am.

If you need your beauty sleep, the whole thing will be aired on RTÉ2 at 9.30pm on Monday night.

Keep an eye on DailyEdge.ie tomorrow for full coverage of the Golden Globes. Fingers crossed for Ruth, Colin and the lads!

The ‘N’ sound is made by the front/top part of the tongue raising and touching the roof of the mouth, nn, nn. The teeth part a bit, the lips are open, nn, nn, and the vocal cords make the sound, nn, nn. For the other sounds, further research will have to be undertaken.

Fallon is poor and disingenuous. Delighted it’s the better Jimmy, Jimmy Kimmel doing the Oscars.
