Hickeys, Charlie and UFC: Here's what we were all searching for on Google this year

“How to get rid of hickeys fast?” Really Ireland?

GOOGLE HAS RELEASED lists of what we were all searching for over the past 12 months.

And some of the results are, obviously, a bit mortifying. We’ve been asking the search engine how to get rid of hickeys quickly, for instance.

From events to sportspeople, politicians to TV shows and music, Google has revealed the top 10 most searched items in a variety of categories.

The Rugby World Cup took the top spot in this year’s list of overall top-trending search terms.

Conor McGregor came in at number three while also topping the sportspeople list. Irish people were also looking for ‘How to watch McGregor fight in Ireland’.

News

The Paris attacks and Charlie Hebdo shootings, as well as the death of Karen Buckley in Scotland and the health of NBA star Lamar Odom all featured in the top 10 of the news search list.

On a lighter note, we wanted to know more about RTE’s Operation Transformation and Eurovision 2015 (of course). Lady Colin Campbell, who starred in this year’s ‘I’m a celebrity…Get me out of Here!’ made the top 10 list followed by Jurassic World which hit the $1 billion mark at the box office faster than any other movie.

More than 20 years after he retired from politics, one Charlie Haughey was ahead of the pack in terms of trending politicians – no doubt helped by the RTE mini-series which documented his life and was broadcast last winter.

Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump came in third on the list, one below Minister for Health Leo Varadkar who created headlines this year for both his work in health and personal interviews in which he spoke publicly for the first time about being a gay man.

Renua Ireland’s Terence Flanagan also makes the list which may be due to this rather awkward radio interview.

Top of the ‘What is?’ list is understandably ‘What is Isis?’, while top of the ‘how to’ list is ‘How to use snapchat?’.

Tony Fenton, one of Ireland’s best loved DJs who sadly passed away this year also made the list of top trending people.
