Large quantity of ammunition, firearms and explosives found

The army bomb disposal team were called and declared the area safe last night.

AN INVESTIGATION INTO the activities of dissident Republicans has resulted in a discovery of firearms and ammunition in County Clare.

Gardai from Limerick carried out a search operation at Meelick and seized a large quantity of ammunition along with a number of firearms, explosive components and documentation during the search of a wooded area yesterday evening.

The army bomb disposal team were called and declared the area safe before a examination of the scene was carried out.

The items seized have since been removed for forensic and technical examination.

No arrests have been made to date and the investigation is ongoing.
