Making an entrance: 6 hallway tables that will instantly add a welcoming feel

When it comes to hallways, first impressions count.

OFTEN, THE HALLWAY can take a back seat during redecoration when it, quite fittingly, should be front and centre.

They do a whole lot more than lead you from room to room – often setting the precursor for a home’s overall vibe. That’s why a handy hallway table is essential: one that doesn’t take up too much room but still adds a design element to the space.

This week, we’ve found a choice of six beautiful hallway tables. And, each one will welcome you in, and bid you a fond farewell, in the best way possible.

1. Simple things: Keep things sleek like @diyshelley does with a hallway table that doesn’t command the space but sets an easy-going and clutter-free tone. Matched with interesting art and a fun rug, the slender legs of this console break up the space and let the eyes rest on a simple design.

Find a similar simple console at Michael Murphy Home Furnishing.

2. Trestle time: Trestle tables are ideal for narrow hallways as they allow for storage underneath. Take some design advice from @housesevendesign and stay away from blocky designs if space is at a premium.

This trestle from IKEA lets you play with height and customise the tabletop to your liking.

3. Vote weave: Welcome some warm Moroccan vibes with a woven bench that doubles up as a handy hallway table – perfect for storing shoes and leaving plenty of space above for hanging coats. This theme created by @maisondumondeuk matches the right colours and materials to bring the heat in.

Look to Finnish Design Shop for a bench that will set you off on the right foot.

4. Bit on the side: For wider hallways, expose your love of mid-century style from the get-go with a sideboard. Great for an easy tidy up, it will store any clutter and provide ample space for air purifying plants, catch-all plates and other accessories. @ahousebythetrees sets the tone by mixing rich wood with greenery.

Find a range of stylish sideboards at Arnotts.

5. Plant an idea: @joserusschen keeps things simple, inspiring houseplant fans with a penchant for minimalist design. A lightweight plant box doubles up nicely as place for keys and knick-knacks but hides them so the space remains streamlined.

Look to Ferm Living for this exact design.

6. Tidy little number: Get your measuring tape out and find a hallway table that fits snugly against the staircase. Here, @persimmonhatfield2017 has found the perfect match in this hairpin-legged addition to the hall. It does its job without taking up too much space.

Hairpin legs make for light and moveable tables that let you switch things up. Find similar at Fruugo.
