Hanafin could lose Dún Laoghaire seat

Eamon Gilmore has been elected but Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin could be in trouble.

LABOUR LEADER EAMON Gilmore has been elected on the first count in Dún Laoghaire but the real story could be the demise of Fianna Fáil’s Mary Hanafin.

The tourism minister is battling for the final seat with Fine Gael’s Sean Barrett and Mary Mitchell-O’Connor set to be elected in the second and third seats in the four-seater.

Hanafin is battling with People Before Profit’s Richard Boyd Barrett and Labour’s second candidate Ivana Bacik for the final seat.

Eamon Gilmore said he was confident that he will be joined by his party colleague after votes are transferred.

It also means that Hanafin’s party colleague and outgoing Junior Minister Barry Andrews is now certain to lose his seat in Dun Laoghaire.

Dún Laoghaire is one our 12 Hot List constituencies. Follow events here >
