Prince Harry's memoir becomes fastest-selling non-fiction book in UK since records began

His autobiography Spare sold 467,183 copies in its first week of sales.

PRINCE HARRY’S MEMOIR has become the fastest-selling non-fiction book in the UK since records began in 1998.

According to Nielsen BookData, which collects and provides information on distribution and sales measurement of books, Harry’s headline-grabbing autobiography Spare sold 467,183 copies in its first week.

The memoir, which hit the shelves on January 10, includes claims that his brother William physically attacked him and teased him about his panic attacks, and that the new king put his own interests above Harry’s. 

The data released by Nielsen shows that the book has broken the previous record of 210,506 set by the first Pinch Of Nom cookbook – written by Kay Allinson – in 2019.

The Nielsen BookData does not include e-books or audiobooks and refers only to the sale of physical copies. 

Spare, which was ghostwritten by JR Moehringer, is the only non-fiction book to make it into the top 10 fastest-selling books in the UK since records began.

Since January 1998 JK Rowling has dominated the chart, with four of her Harry Potter novels sitting at the top, while Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol claims the fifth spot ahead of Spare at number six.

To claim number one on the chart, which looks at the first week of sales only, Rowling’s Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows sold 2.63 million copies in its first week in 2007.

Despite the memoir hitting shelves in Spain ahead of the official publication date, and a number of extracts leaking in the lead-up to the book’s UK release, Nielsen’s data suggest sales were not negatively affected.

As the duke continued a run of high-profile promotional interviews, he said he “would like nothing more” than for his children to have relationships with the royal family.

His remarks about his son and daughter came despite the criticism he has levelled at his brother William, father Charles and stepmother Camilla.

He also described his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, as his “guardian angel” and said she is with him “all the time”.

    @Martin Flood: It will not be too long before the Troika are back. The Paddies never learn, they still listen to the establishment political classes that it will be different this time, while pandering to the greedy Developer cow boy’s, the Estate agents and the rest of the vested interests in the property rip off business. Interest rates have only one way to go and that is up, How can house prices rise at 10% pa and wages, and salaries rise at max 4%before tax and levies? This is exactly what happened in the run up to the crash in 2008. It will all end in tears once again this time no one will be prepared to foot the bill for the incompetent political class, Regulators, and the rest of get rich quick again merchant’s.

    Why buy a house in Dublin for €400,000 when a better house can be found 2hrs away in Leitrim for a quarter of the price ? In fact when you take the interest payments into account the savings will run into close to one million Euro.

    @Sean Ryan: I can sell my house in Dublin tomorrow and buy a house in Letrim and be mortgage free after paying off the mortgage. I have a 25 minute commute at present so I’d rather stay put. When House prices crashed Dublin recovered first and quickest. It also exceeds the rates going up in other places.

    @Sean Ryan: Lovely Leitrim is a great place for a holiday or to retire in peaceful surroundings close to the River Shannon. Carrick-on-Shannon has a railway station on the Dublin – Sligo route.

    @iMoan Brutal: Carrick is a 35 minute drive (without speeding) from Sligo University Hospital. Allowing for traffic, how long would it take most people to get to the ED of whatever hospital is on call for emergencies in Dublin? Probably at least that length of time. And in Carrick you’re within walking distance to everything… shops, medical centre, pubs, restaurants, gym, pool, cinema. So maybe not such a terrible place to retire to after all?!

    @Suzie Sunshine: if you could get a job paying 30k in Leitrim you’d probably end up with more disposable income than busting your hole to repay a 500k mortgage in Dublin earning 100k and paying half your income in tax.

    Why pay €400,000 for a house in Dublin. A better house can be found in Leitrim, only 2 hours away for €1000,000. There’s almost one million Euro in savings to be made over the life of the mortgage too

    Say your job starts at 0800, that means you have to leave home at least at 0600, which means you have to get up at 0500 to shower, dress and drop something in the stomach before leaving.
    Your work finishes at 1700, add two hours drive and you will be at home at 1900 in the best case scenario.
    Then you have approximately 2 hours to grab your dinner, spend some time with your family and be in bed by 2100. Why at 2100? Because you need at least 8h sleep.

    There’s 24h in a day, so you spend 8 hours sleeping, 2 hours with your family and a whoping 14 hours working and getting to/from work.
    And you call this living? Slavery is the word that comes to my mind when you look at these conditions.

    Roscommon and Letrim are excellent value right now, places that come to mind, along the river Shannon, Rooskey and Carrick on Shannon in particular. Lots of awesome deals you could get right now!

    Im a Real Estate Professional here in Boston, it’s a sellers market here now, average cost per Square Foot wait for it!…., $1500

    Dear fiscal advisory council, it’s land prices that are increasing not the cost of construction. They are two different things. It wasn’t Sisk that went bust. It was property companies, namely land speculators that ruined this country. The construction industry needs long term investment. So tradesmen, civil engineers just don’t decide to leave and go where they can make a good living.

    cop on – it is not just house prices as it costs (or should cost) roughly the same to build the same house in any county, it is the cost of building land that makes a difference too when a 5,000 euro field becomes worth 500,000 because it gets zoned residential.

    One major issue is the lack of and consequently the cost of building land around the areas of major employment. This is a false market created by the zoning and planning process. If it could be assumed that 50% of the farm land within 50 miles of Dublin were rezoned as potentially residential the bottom would fall out of the artificially inflated building property market and now your house site would cost 5,000 and not 250,000 so the property prices would be more equitable across the country.

    When one values/insures a property now one can get the “rebuild” value which is a truer refection of the cost of a house and and difference between that and the market value represent a premium for the site and location. A 400,000 house in Dublin could have a rebuild value of 200,000 for example the extra 200,000 being a premium for the location.

    I could go on but there are land owners and property developers with too much to loose to expect to see a change in the system

    plenty of houses in cork kerry limerick for about 60k trains go to dublin from these destinations every day of the week plenty of fresh air and no neighbours to interfer with you u can get all the entertainment on the telly and the internet parking free in most towns and villages and plenty of rulal roads to go for your walk in dowm the country boys sure tis like heavan
