Poll: Is it fair to charge people who wait to take out health insurance more?

Fair pooling of risk? Or a deterrent to signing up?

YESTERDAY, THE GOVERNMENT announced new rules around how much people will pay for health insurance.

Under the Lifetime Community Rating, those who wait to take out a policy until they’re 35 will pay a 2% loading per year when they do take out a policy.

The Health Insurance Authority says that the system is needed to attract young people to the market, but the move has also been criticised as lacking value for money.

Some also fear that it may deter people from taking out a policy as they age.

We’re asking: Is it fair to charge people who wait to take out health insurance more?

Poll Results:

No (2266)
Yes (1495)
It will only deter people (1477)
I don't know (176)
